  • Brief History Milestones
    Project Inception 2008
    • Initial needs analysis carried out in the region Aug-Nov2008
    • In Dec 2008, the first pilot project was completed in Los Torres @ the Kinder.
    • This pilot acted as a train the trainer.
    • Members of the Los Torres Community went on to construct a further 27 family cisterns, & 3 school cisterns in Phase II in 2009.
    2009 - 2010
    • Late 2009 & early 2010 the Los Torres Community constructed a further 21 cisterns & installed 3 tinacos (plastic tanks) for elderly community members who were unable to participate.
    • Also in 2009/10 3 more communities completed projects. Montecillo de Nieto, Cruz del Palmar & Vivienda de Arriba.
    • Montecillo de Nieto - 1 cistern @ Kinder, School & Church & 27 family cisterns.
    • Cruz del Palmar - 1 cistern @ primary school & 27 family cisterns.
    • Vivienda de Arriba - 1 cistern @ primary school, 16 family cisterns + 1 tinaco.
    • In June 2010 the Green Fund (a subsidiary of the local Ecology Department) funded 40 cisterns in the community of Capaderillo, this is the first project not funded by Rotary or SMCF. (ie the first govt. funding)
    • As of August 2010, the Project team had been approached by a total of 20 communities asking for water projects in their communities. 
    • Oct 2010 the first regional meeting was held as part of the inauguration of the Capaderillo event. More than 250 people attended representing 18 communities.
    • November 2010 the 2nd regional meeting was held in Cruz del Palmar, at this meeting the Consejo was formed, bringing together the representatives of each of the 18 communities currently meeting, in a citizen's council. This entity was officially created with the help of Irma Rosado from the Presidencia, includes official paperwork & is now a recognised official Consejo.
    • November 2010 - Saul Juarez ( a young leader in the Capaderillo Community) joins the Water project team & begins work for Cedesa, on the water projects & outreach in the Consejo region (working with 18 Communities!)
    • In December 2010 another water Project in Palencia was started with the left over funds from the direct grant from Los Torres Phase II, & the Matching grants in Los Torres, Montecillo de Nieto & Cruz del Palmar/Vivienda de Arriba, along with another direct grant of US$7k from Tallahassee RC, this project for 21 cisterns was completed in January 2011.
    2011
    • March 2011 The Consejo met with Mayor Lucy Nunez & department heads of the Municipality to discuss issues & agreed to continue to meet on a regular basis to work together to resolve issues.
    • March 2011 The UU's & Rotary join forces to provide funds for a vehicle for Saul, to simplify the process of "organizing" in the Consejo region. Previously much of his day was taken up with transport to the communities, buses run only 2 x per day, & it's very far to bicycle.
    • 2011 - The Consejo continues to meet monthly to discuss common issues, including meeting with govt. representatives to resolve issues together.
    • April 2011 a solicitude for 430+ dry toilets was presented to Desarollo Social, asking for assistance to pay for materials for these toilets, the list of names is from 18 communities of the Consejo.
    • In April 2011 another 6 water projects were started - 
    • Global Grant 25397 for $33,500 from Baton Rouge Capitol City RC & District, funded 50 Cisterns, an additional 2 direct grant donations (from Port Lavaca Texas & New Braumfels Texas) added 14 cisterns to this project, for a total of 42 cisterns in Tierra Blanca & 22 Cisterns in Juan Gonzalez, 
    • Fondo Verde a subsidiary of the Ecology department funded 4 cisterns in San Lorenzo, 1 in Juan Gonzalez & 10 in Cinco Senores
    • & Sapasma funded a project in Villa de Guadalupe for 27 cisterns, & Cienega Juana Ruiz for 26 cisterns, another direct grant from Bellingham Rotary club paid for the 2 pilots for these projects
    • As at the end of June 2011 we will have completed 347 cisterns.
    • Another Global grant (GG25437) is currently in application, for a further 110 cisterns - Calgary Chinook RC &  District are partnering with us on this one.
    • As at July 2011, we are currently attempting to find funding for the approx 100 other families from approx 4 communities still on the list. (including a 2nd phase of 60 cisterns in Tierra Blanca)
    • June 2011 regional meeting planned to discuss possible site for Regional Consejo site. This site would be  for meetings & used as a eco technicas demonstration site. The Consejo has identified the need for a common meeting place for the representatives of these 18 communities, often the meetings are as large as 100 people..
    • June 2011 Regional Assembly - Over 70 men and women, plus a dozen children and babes-in-arms, attended this assembly in the chapel patio of Vivienda de Arriba. They represented 18 communities.
    • Sept 2011 1st Meeting re water proj in Los Magueyes
    • Sept 2011 regional assembly La Tinaca over 100+ people attending - incl. 11 men (18 communities represented)
    • Oct 2011 2nd Sapasma grant announced; Sapasma (our local water authority) have agreed to fund another project for 59 cisterns mxn$439,399 pesos. This project will be carried out in 3 communities with an additional 3 solo cisterns to be provided in 2 more communities
    • Oct 2011 Future Vision Global Grant 25437 announced for a grand total of US$65,300 & a planned cistern count of 108 cisterns in 4 communities decided by the Consejo (citizen's council) of 18 communities.
